A M AHAMMED KUTTY HAJI

A M Ahammed Kutty Haji was a prominent political leader, social worker, and a respected figure in the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) within Mukkam Municipality, Kozhikode. Known for his multi-faceted personality, he was deeply connected with people from all walks of life, regardless of their political affiliation, religion, or caste. His dedication to public service and his ability to build bridges across communities made him a beloved and influential leader.

A M Ahammed Kutty Haji was known for being one of the sharpest minds in development, leaving behind a significant legacy of progressive leadership and care-focused politics. Born into a modest Mappila community in Neeleswaram – Poolapoyil, he rose through the ranks to become one of the senior politicians in Mukkam, whether serving in administration or the opposition. He has served as grama panchayath president and vice president in several terms. A long period of time, Ahmed Kutty Haji was the voice of opposition in Mukkam.

A M Ahammed Kutty Haji’s influence extended beyond Mukkam Municipality, reaching into the neighboring Omassery Panchayath as well. During the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s, he was regarded as the final authority within the party and local governance in Mukkam. One of his key achievements was his relentless effort to upgrade Mukkam Grama Panchayath to municipality status, a significant milestone that brought enhanced infrastructure and public services to the community who lived in povery and marginalised.

A M Ahammed Kutty Haji was known for his remarkable character, embodying decency, kindness, and a highly approachable character. Even his political opponents held him in high regard, as he extended help to people from all walks of life without regard for their identity, background, or affiliations. His ever-present smile and his unique problem-solving skills endeared him to the party and people making him a trusted figure in matters both big and small.

A M Ahammed Kutty Haji’s local political career began in 1983 when he achieved a sweeping victory in the Mukkam Panchayath election. Over the course of his career, he held several key positions, including President, Vice President, and Standing Committee Chairman of the Panchayath. He was elected as a Panchayath member for five consecutive terms, demonstrating his enduring popularity and effective leadership.
Beyond his administrative roles, Haji also held significant positions within the Muslim League. He served as a Muslim League State Committee member and was the President of both the Kunnamangalam and Thiruvambady Muslim League Legislative Assembly Committees.

In addition to his political career, A M Ahammed Kutty Haji served as a religious custodian for the communities of Poolapoyil and Neeleswaram. He was the Mahallu President of Poolapoyil from 1979 to 2023, a role in which he provided spiritual and community leadership for over four decades. His dedication extended beyond this, as he played an active role in Madrassa committees and was deeply involved in various relief activities under the banner of Samastha, a prominent Islamic organization.
