Muzhappilangad Drive-In Beach

Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach is one of the prettiest beaches in India. Spanning 5 kilometers, this clean and tidy beach is located near Thalassery in Kannur district, Kerala. Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach offers a unique driving experience where you can drive through the beach with the waves lapping at your tires. The beach features hard-packed white sand that stretches long and curves gracefully between the coast and the Arabian Sea, creating a stunning and memorable experience.

Even though Kerala is home to many beaches, few offer vehicle access like Muzhappilangadi Beach. This unique feature allows disabled individuals and those in wheelchairs to experience the mesmerizing waves of the sea up close, making it an inclusive and special destination.

Kannur district boasts the longest coastline in Kerala, stretching 82 kilometers, which accounts for 14 percent of the state’s total coastline. The coastlines of Kannur and neighboring Kasargod are historically significant and ideal tourist destinations, thanks to their fine, long beaches and historic forts like Kannur Fort and Bekal Fort. These areas offer a blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Muzhappilangad is where the vast Arabian Sea meets the endless blue sky, and the long sandy beach harmonizes with the swaying coconut trees.

Four-wheelers and two-wheelers are allowed to enter Muzhappilangad Beach, with an entry fee required. The beach is well-maintained, remaining neat and clean for visitors. To ensure safety, a maximum speed limit of 20 km per hour is enforced for vehicles on the beach.

In a BBC Auto article, Muzhappilangad was recognized as one of the six best drive-in beaches in the world. It attracts a large number of local tourists, as well as visitors from other states. Its proximity to historic sites like Kannur and Bekal forts also draws many foreign tourists to the area.
