Venappara

Venappara is a small village in Omassery panchayath of Kozhikode district, Kerala. This small village is located on Omassery – Kodanchery road on Kerala state highway 68 which connects historical Kappad and Adivaram town in Kozhikode district. Venappara is just 3 kilometers away from Omassery town.

Venappara is one of the settlement town of migrants from Central Travencore area in Kozhikode district. Migration started in 1950s in Venappara and adjacent areas.

Venappara is very close to western ghat mountain system and it has an undulating terrain with low hills. Rubber is the main cash crop cultivated in this area. Venappara is one of the major producer of rubber in the area. Rubber cultivation started by migrants from Travancore. Migrants from Travancore were very experienced in rubber cultivation and other related activities. Most of these migrants had worked in rubber plantations in Kottayam and Idukki districts run by British planters.

Majority of the Travencore migrants were from Christian communities. Christians form majority of the population in Venappara. There are sizable amounts of Hindus and Muslims here.

Other than rubber, coconut, arecanut and banana are widely cultivated here.

Venappara has a higher secondary school named Holy family HSS and Little flower UP school.

Venappara kurishu mala (St.Thomas shrine church and pilgrim centre) is known as Malayattoor of Malabar. Many pilgrims from neighboring areas climb the Kurishumala irrespective of caste and religion.

Venappara is well connected by roads. Omassery town is just 4 kilometers away and Kodenchery is just 8 kilometers away. Omassery is the nearest commercial and business centre but culturally and socially people are more related to Kodenchery.
