Kottappuram is a small township situated on Valanchery – Koppam highway in Malappuram district, Kerala. The town is located just 3 kilometers away from Valanchery town.
Kottappuram is situated between Valanchery and Valiyakunnu. Eventhough the town is very close to Valanchery, it is part of Irimbiliyam grama panchayath.
Kottappuram shares vast paddy fields that span across the region. Rice and vegetables are cultivated by farmers.
Rice fields get enough water resources from neighboring Bharathappuzha, second longest river in Kerala. Another river Kunthipuzha ( locally known as Thuthapuzha ) merges with Bharathappuzha in Irimbiliyam panchayath.
Kottappuram juma masjid is the main religious centre in the town which was established in 1917. Kottappuram Guruvayoorappan temple which is the major Hindu temple in Kottappuram. It is a muslim majority village where both muslims and hindus co-exist in harmony.
