Mukkam

1. Mukkam is a major town in Kozhikode district, Kerala. Town is located 27 km away from Kozhikode town. Mukkam is the commercial and business capital of eastern Kozhikode.

2. State Highway 34 Koyilandi – Edavanna passes through the town.

3. Mukkam is a fast growing commercial and business town which was upgraded to municipality status from grama panchayath.

4. It is also a major trade centre of rubber, coconut, arecanut, banana and other agricultural products. Mukkam is completely an agricultural economy. Highly skilled farmer are backbone of the economy of this region.

5. It is a major shopping centre of the region. People from neighboring areas frequently visit mukkam for shopping. City has acquired a new shopping culture after setting up of many hypermarket and supermarket. Many home delivery companies also operate in the town. Mukkam is a wholesale centre of the region. Many retailers purchase their commodities from here.

6. Iruvanjipuzha flows through the town. The river originates from Vellarimala in Wayanad Kozhikode border of Western Ghat. It is a major tributary of Chaliyar river. Iruvanjipuzha merges with Chaliyar river at Koolimadu. Neighboring towns of Anakkampoyil, kodiyathoor, cheruvadi are also situated on the banks of Iruvanjipuzha. Iruvanjipuzha provides water and fertile soil for cultivation. Landslides in western ghat during monsoon season make damages to the shore of the river. Water level substantially rises and threatens the residential building.
