Puthoor is a prominent junction village situated within the Omassery grama panchayat of Kozhikode district. Strategically positioned on Kerala State Highway 68, between Omassery and Koduvally, Puthoor enjoys excellent road connectivity from all directions.To the east lies Omassery, a significant commercial hub and gateway to the Western Ghats of Kozhikode. Westward, Puthoor connects to Koduvally, renowned as the “Golden City.” To the north is the town of Velimanna, and the famous Malayamma Road originates from Puthoor.
Puthoor is a predominantly Muslim village with a significant Hindu population. It serves as a stronghold for the Indian Union Muslim League, while the CPI(M) and Congress also maintain a presence in the area. The majority of Muslims in Puthoor are Sunnis, with both the EK and AP factions active within the community. Located just two kilometers away, Jaramkandi Makham is a revered local Muslim pilgrimage center. Remittances from overseas workers, particularly those in the Gulf region, constitute the primary source of income for the village. Coconut, arecanut, and banana are the major agricultural products cultivated in Puthoor. The village is experiencing rapid growth, with numerous small retail outlets emerging along both sides of the main road.
