Pottur is a small and picturesque village covered by lush green paddy fields. It is part of Vattamkulam panchayath of Malappuram district, Kerala. This is a border village of Malappuram and Palakkad. Pottur has a diverse culture of Malappuram and Palakkad.

Pottur is well connected by roads. Kumbidy – Neeliyad road is passing through Pottur. This road connects Kuttipuram – Thrithala road and Ponnani – Palakkad state highway. Pottur is located 5 kilometers away from Edappal town and 12 kilometers away from Thrithala town. Kuttipuram is the nearest railway station.

Pottur lies on the Valley of Bharathappuzha, the second longest river in Kerala. Pottur is one of the ancient Brahmin settlements of Kerala. Pottur is ideally located between Panniyoor and Sukapuram Brahmin settlements, two rivalry Brahmin settlements in Kerala.

It is a major higher secondary school in Vattamkulam panchayath and Edappal sub district. The school was founded in 1994 and is run by Crescent Educational Trust. The school campus is located over five acres of land on a lush green paddy field.
