Edachalam is a beautiful and picturesque village in Kuttipuram panchayath of Malappuram district, Kerala.

Edachalam is easily accessible from Kuttipuram town. There are 4 kilometers to Edachalam from Kuttipuram police station. This village is situated on Kuttipuram – Perashanoor – Valanchery road.

Edachalam is an agrarian village with vast paddy fields can be seen all over the village. Bharathappuzha, second longest river in Kerala flow through this village. Both shores of the river provide highly fertile lands suitable for agriculture. Bharathappuzha provides sufficient water resources for the agricultural activities. A large number of people in this village depend on rice cultivation and related activities for the livelihood. Animal husbandry is another main economic activity in Edachalam due to the availability of dried stems of paddy plants.

Other than rice, coconut, arecanut, banana and tapioca are also widely cultivated.

A railway line is passing through the paddy fields parallel to Bharathappuzha. Kuttipuram station is the main railway station in this area. Bharathappuzha, railway line and beautiful paddy fields make the village a perfect tourism destination for village lovers.

Hinduism and Islam are the major religions in Edachalam. Muslims form majority of the population. There is a substantial amounts of Hindu community live here. There are many temples and mosques here.

Juma Masjid

Indian Union Muslim League ( IUML ) and Communist Party of India Marxist CPI(M) are the major political parties. This is bastion of Muslim League. Usually Muslim League is elected in local body elections.
