Longest Railway platform, Hubballi

Hubballi Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Station houses the longest railway platform in the world with 1507 metres in length after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated on 11 March, 2023. Guinness Book of World Records has recognised Hubballi platform as the longest in the world which was constructed with a cost of 20 crore rupees. Hubballi or Hubli is the headquarters of Hubballi division and South Western Railway Zone which look after major part of Karnataka state. Hubballi, Bengaluru, Mysuru railway divisions and proposed Kalaburagi division fall under South Western Railway Zone.

Hubballi is a major business and commercial capital of North Karnataka. Together with Dharwad, it forms second largest city in Karnataka with one million population. Hubballi and Dharwad are twin cities with only 20 kilometers in distance. Hubballi-Dharwad is a single municipality corporation and district headquarters are located in Dharwad while major business and commercial activities are based in Hubballi.

Earlier Gorakhpur railway station of North Eastern Railway Zone which is located in eastern Uttar Pradesh was the longest railway platform with a length of 1366 meters. Kollam railway junction of Southern Railway in Kerala has third longest railway platform in the world with 1,180.5 metres.

Hubballi junction connects railway lines towards Bengaluru (the state capital and IT capital of India), Hospet in Vijayanagara district (near historical Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Vasco da Gama in Goa (station which serves Mormugao, a major iron ore exporting port of India.

To meet growing needs of Hubballi-Dharwad, more platforms have been built in Hubballi railway junction. There are eight platforms in Hubballi and eighth one is the longest platform. Simultaneously, two train into two different direction can flaf off at the same time. It will help hassle-free receipt and dispatch of trains and will provide more space for passenger and cargo mobility.
