Madhu Babu Pension Scheme

Madhu Babu Pension Scheme is a wholly Odisha government sponsored social security scheme for elders above 60 years of age, widows of all ages, HIV patients and other weaker sections of the society.

Madhu Babu Pension Scheme, launched in 2008 by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Earlier the pension amount was 500 rupees for the beneficieries between 60 and 79 and 700 rupees for those who are 80 and above in age. In 2024, pension amount has raised to 1000 and 1200 rupees for age group 60 – 79 and age group  80 and above, respectively.

Madhu Babu Pension Scheme has become a crucial programe in maintaining a basic standard of living in later years of life. A steady economic growth of around 8 percent has helped government to raise pension amount in 2024. A regular financial assistance to elderly people can ensure maintaining their healh and well-being without causing any difficult to family members. Aging population often comes with inreased healthcare needs.

Madhu Babu Pension Schemealong with women SHGs are the backbone of Naveen Patnaik who has managed to be in power  for so long. Naveen Patnaik is the second longest serving chief minister in India, next only to Pawan Kumar Chamling, chief minister of Sikkim.
