Manjeri Railway Station

Manjeri Railway Station is one of the four  proposed railway stations in Kerala by Indian Railway to construct in future. This came after Indian Railway’s new decision to construct railway track in the areas with a population of half lakh but no railway connectivity so far. Manjeri tops in Kerala in this list with nearly one lakh population. Malappuram, Kodungallur, Nedumangad are other cities in Kerala with a population over half lakh. Eventhogh Nedumangad and Thodupuzha are eligible for this project, proposed Sabari Railway passes through these cities.

Manjeri is the headquarters of Eranad taluk, largest municipality in Malappuram district and fourth largest municipality in Kerala. Governments have not paid much attention to the infrastructure development of Manjeri. Skipping of Manjeri from NH966 Kozhikode-Palakkad National highway seriously affected the growth of Manjeri.

New Manjeri

Manjeri has been spotted as a fast growing business, commercial and transportation hub of Malabar in future. Proposed Kozhikode Palakkad Greenfield Highway is passing through Karakunnu, 6 kilometers away from Manjeri town will bring back the lost glory of Manjeri. Kozhikode- Palakkad Greenfield Highway is a four lane or six lane road is under Central Government’s ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana. Upon completion of Wayanad parallel tunnel road, there will be constant hike in traffic of Manjeri and Manjeri will be a new transit route for the vehicles to Wayanad, Mysore and Bangalore side from south Kerala. The New Wayanad tunnel road runs parallel to Thamarassery Ghat road. New Wayanad tunnel can reduce more than 500 kilometers to Bangalore from Kochi.

Nilambur-Nanjangud Railway Line

Proposed Nilambur-Nanjangud Railway Line, if becomes reality, will boost economy of Manjeri. The future Manjeri Railway Station defenetly will be connected to Nilambur and Nilambur will be a railway junction as it has already a line to Shornur Junction. Nilambur-Nanjangud Railway is most viable and economical that Thalassery-Mysore Railway. Karnataka Government has already approved this project and National Board for Wildlife’s (NBWL) Standing Committee approval is mandatory for this project as it passes through wildlife reserves.

Manjari has proximity to Kozhikode International Airport (20 km), Malappuram district headquarters (12 km) and Perinthalmanna popularly known as “Hospital City” (20 km) will boost the aspiration to become a transport hub.

Football Capital of Kerala

Malappuram has already bagged the name as the “Mecca of Kerala Football ” as the people of Malappuram embrace football as a religion irrespective of their caste and religion. Ahead of FIFA world cup football tournament, cutouts of their favorite players and flags of their favorite teams will be spilled over every villages and towns of Malappuram and neighboring districts. This is a common phenomenon from 1980’s. Eventhogh cricket was one of the most favorable games of Malappuram, football has taken over the minds of younger generation. Even those who played cricket before tend not to play cricket due to enormous popularity of football. Manjeri is not an exception. Malappuram District Sports Complex Stadium which is located at Payyanad in Manjeri. It has a capacity to include nearly 30000 spectators. Manjeri Stadium has already set a record in India’s 80 year old Santhosh Trophy tournament which was held in a city with less than 100000 population.

Manjeri Medical College

Manjeri Medical College is sixth government medical college in Kerala. New railway station will provide access to all people in Malappuram to reach in Manjeri Medical College.
