Shiva Chouhan is the first women officer of Indian Army deployed at Kumar Post of Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world. She was appointed in XIV Corps or Fire and Fury Corps of Indian Army on 2 January, 2023. Fire and Fury Corps is responsible for the military deployment and protection of Siachen Glacier. Her team of Sappers will look after combat engineering tasks of the area. Siachen is considered highest, deadliest and costliest battlefield in the world. Indian army has to face Pakistan army as well as harsh weather condition and avalanche in this Karakoram range of Himalayas.
Shiva Chouhan was born in Udaipur, Rajasthan and educated in Rajasthan. She holds a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from Techno India NJR Institute of Technology. She finished her training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai. She was appointed as Sapper at Kumar Post of Siachen Glacier which located at an altitude of 15632 feet in height. She is from Corps of Engineers. Prior to Shiva’s appointment, women were appointed only in Siachen base camp which only 9000feet in height. Kumar Post is the headquarters of Northern Glacier Battalion.
Personal Life
According to Indian Army, Shiva Chouhan lost her father at the age of 11 and her mother, a housewife, took care of her studies.
