Ayankalam is the largest junction town in Tavanur grama panchayath of Malappuram district, Kerala. NH 66 which connects Panvel in Mumbai and Kanyakumari is passing through the centre of Ayankalam. Tavanur road, Maravancheri – Parappuram road and Thrikkanapuram road start from Ayankalam.
Tavanur grama panchayath headquarters and Krishibhavan are located in Ayankalam as it is easy to reach here from all sides of Tavanur panchayath.
Ayankalam is part of Tavanur assembly constituency and Ponnani Loksabha constituency. It belongs to Ponnani taluk. Kuttippuram is the nearest railway station.
