Vellanchery

Vellanchery is a small river bank village town in Tavanur panchayath of Malappuram district, Kerala. It lies on the southern bank of Bharathappuzha (Nila river). Vellanchery is a local body ward in Tavanur grama panchayath. It is well connected by road and rail network. NH 66 which connects Panvel, Mumbai and Kanyakumari is passing through Mini Pampa, a neighborhood of Vellanchery. State highway 69 which connects Thrissur and Thrikkanapuram originates from Mini Pampa. Kuttippuram is the nearest railway station situated 3 kilometers away from here.

Vellanchery is a picturesque and charming village with vast paddy fields powered by Nila river. Historically Vellanchery, Madirassery have long tradition of paddy farming. Coconut is another major crop cultivated throughout the area. Banana, tapioca and yams are also widely cultivated. Bharathappuzha provides perfect patch for cultivating vegetables on the shores. The slush beneath the riverbed provides fertility which saves the cost of cultivation.
