Kalanthodu

Kalanthodu is a small township situated in Chathamangalam Panchayat, Kozhikode district, Kerala. Positioned along the Kozhikode-Mukkam road, Kalanthodu is approximately 22 kilometers from Kozhikode city. It has developed into a notable commercial center, largely due to significant investments in the real estate sector by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). This influx of investment has led to the expansion of Kalanthodu and its neighboring area, Kattangal, into a unified town with a thriving real estate market, offering numerous residential and rental properties.

Kalanthodu is part of the broader Kattangal area, which is home to prominent educational institutions such as the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut) and the MVR Cancer Centre. This region forms a crucial educational hub within Kozhikode district.

The town enjoys a high standard of living, attributed to the remittances sent back by residents working in various Persian Gulf countries. This economic support has bolstered the local economy and improved living conditions. Consequently, Kalanthodu stands out as an affluent community within Kozhikode district, benefiting from both its educational institutions and its strong ties to the Middle East.

One of the notable traditions associated with Kalanthodu is the annual “Nercha” or religious gathering. The Kalanthodu Nercha was a celebrated Muslim festival in the area, drawing large crowds and highlighting the town’s spiritual importance.
