Location of Poolapoyil

1.Poolapoyil is a high density residential area in the Mukkam municipality in Kozhikode district, Kerala. Town is 5 kilometers away from Mukkam town and 2 kilometers away from Omassery town.

2. Although Poolapoyil is located very close to Omassery, the town is still in the Mukkam municipality due to improper demarcation of local bodies. Culturally this town is more similar to Omassery than Mukkam.

3. Kerala state highway 34 (Koyilandi to Edavanna) is passing through this small town. The town is well connected by roads which have easy access to neighboring towns like Omassery, Mukkam, Koduvally, Thiruvambady and Thamarassery.

4. Kochi – Mangaluru Natural Gas Pipeline pass through Poolapoyil.

Agriculture

5. Poolapoyil is surrounded by vast paddy fields where rice and bananas are grown in abundance. Arecanut and coconut are other major crops grown in this area.

Demography

6. It is a Muslim majority town where four big mosques and a cemetery (Kabarstan) are situated. All the muslims here are Mappilas and there is a famous Hindu temple is also located in neighboring Neeleswaram.

7. Indian Union Muslim League is the major political party in Poolapoyil. They sweeps with huge majority in the municipal local body elections and major vote share in state assembly elections. BJP is the second largest party. BJP frequently wins Neeleswaram ward council of Mukkam municipality. CPIM has also a presence in this area.

8. Remittances from the Middle east especially from Saudi Arabia and UAE is the major income of this area. Several youths from Poolapoyil work in GCC.

9. Neeleswaram high school and Kathiyodu school is major educational institutions in this area. Students from neighboring locations come to Neeleswaram school for secondary education. Neeleswaram school has a big playground and local youths utilize this ground for football. Poolapoyil and Neeleswaram are famous for football. Priyadarsini arts and sports club is a well running club by youths of this area.

10. Neeleswaram village office is close to Poolapoyil and Ahammed Kutty Haji, Abu Haji , Venu Master, Elamana Subrahmanyan and Bijumon Joseph are important personalities in this area.

11. There is a post office in Poolapoyil.
