Vattappara Valavu is a dangerous accident-prone curve on NH 66 in Kozhikode – Thrissur road. Vattappara Valavu is in Valanchery municipality of Malappuram district, Kerala. It is an infamous curve which was constructed without considering road safety measures. The site is known as “graveyard of trucks and oil tankers”, where accidents and overturning of the trucks and oil tankers are a regular sightings for those who pass the road. According to locals, more than two hundred accidents have occurred in Vattappara and lost lives of 25 people.

New National Highway 66 six lane bypass road which starts from Vattappara and ends in Mukkilapeedika, without touching Valanchery municipality. After the completion of the NH 66, all the Kozhikode – Kochi trucks and vehicles will be able to use bypass. Valanchery bypass is one of the longest elevated bypass in Malabar region.

In most cases big trucks and oil tankers from other states have overturned in Vattappara curve as drivers were not familiar with the curve. There are many renovations have taken in this area to prevent accidents, but ended in futile.
